During the Nordic Youth Conference in Oslo August 2009 youth activists attended workshops and presentations to get inspired to take action, work on the new campaign Demand Dignity and learn about the decision-making process within Amnesty International.
The youth activists were also tested on their communicative skills and creativity while preparing an action in downtown Oslo.. Talking to people in the streets they raised awareness of oil pollution in the Niger Delta and collected more than three hundred signatures for the cause. Back at the camp different perspectives on doing volunteer work were also presented with lectures from a delegate of the Red Cross and a Norwegian environmental activist. The Nordic Youth Conference was not all about being serious though. Like a battery full of energy the youth activists created a social buzz that lasted during the whole conference. The delegates themselves threw a party and social meetings were common everyday. When heading back home everyone was filled with inspiration and new ideas to be carried out for the coming year.
"Thanks everyone for the conference! It was a great experience to get to know you all and share these four days with you" (youth delegate from Finland)
